Message from the Chairman

Morning Everyone,

Just to remind you all not to forget the Spring Meeting Wednesday 3rd April 7pm in the clubroom.

The Treasurer and Membership Secretary will be in attendance to collect your subscriptions. If you need an Application Form you can contact Anne on 01354 694265 or there will be some available on the night.

Pre-season outside maintenance is well underway. On behalf of Tony, I would like to thank those of you who have helped with the fences/rink surrounds.

If anyone can spare some time, the fence (from the gate to the toilets) still needs preserving and the sheds. Dark oak Ronseal is available near the Gents Changing Room with brushes. Your assistance is very much appreciated.

The Rinks look marvellous and you will chomping at the bit to get started, due to the skills and hard work put in by Andrew and his team.

Look forward to seeing you all again at the Meeting

Regards

Richard

Friendly @ Littleport

Please let Clive know if you are available to play in the friendly away to Littleport on August 13th.

Royal Oak too strong

Defeat this week for the ladies as they came up against the league leaders.

On to the next 👍

Ladies League

Despite having only 6 squad members our ladies team is doing very well this season.

As you can see they are currently 3rd in the league.

Again, if you would like to join our ladies team please contact the club. New members are always welcome.

Rothschild Trophy

A valiant effort from CTBC wasn't enough to claim a spot in this year's final.

Despite winning a rink, Black Cats were just a step too far.

Everyone involved can be proud of reaching the semi final this year. Good luck to Black Cats in the final.

Ladies Win Again

Another fantastic win for the ladies this week. Well done 👍

June 2023

Weekly Draw

Gill would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sold tickets for this year's weekly draw.

All 500 tickets have been sold and we look forward to the first draw on Saturday 8th July.

Well done everyone and good luck 🍀🤞

Come back to see who the winners are 👍

Ladies Win

A great result for the ladies this week.

Well done for persevering with such a small squad 👍

If there are any ladies out there who wish to give bowling a try we would very much like to hear from you. 😁

Cancelled friendly.

Unfortunately the friendly against Littleport on Sunday 2nd July has needed to be cancelled.

Volunteers Required

We would like volunteers to help with the green cutting on a rota basis. Probably only once a fortnight.

Also, volunteers to help with the gardens. This would include weeding, pruning, trimming etc. Again, if we can get two or three people, it would only be one afternoon every couple of weeks.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Please contact Tony Landin if you can help or have any questions. 01354 692235 or 07775 688362.

May 2023

New watering system.

We at CTBC are pleased to announce the installation of a new watering sytem. This will greatly aid Andrew and the body of helpers who give up hours of their time to ensure that the greens at Chatteris are amongst the best around.

The work was carried out by Hortech Systems of Holbeach and the cost of the project was supported by a grant from Red Tile Windfarm Trust.

Thanks to everyone who helped support the process to make this possible.

Well done to the ladies team who won their match last night 👍 (22nd)

If there are any ladies interested in playing in social league matches please contact Anne Patter or a committee member.

Although the weather was chilly, a great friendly match against Haddenham BC was held today (13th).

Five rinks of triples matches were played and a very enjoyable time was had by all.

Teas were served afterwards and further chat filled the clubhouse. Cake followed, a raffle was held and tea and coffee completed a lovely afternoon.

Thank you to Clive, Anne, David and everyone else who helped make the day a successful one.

Please check Diary Dates for further friendlies and let Clive know if you are available to play.

April 2023

A successful Open Day was held on Saturday and it was good to see the Moden family attending. Alan’s son, Peter, rolled the first wood and a drive was held to kick off the season. Tea was served by the committee ladies and helpers and many stayed on to socialise.

Drives on Mondays and Saturdays have commenced but competitive leagues do not start until into May.

I will run the Club Nights on Wednesdays until then, so if you would like to come to the club to chat and get up to date, the bar will be open normal times on today (19th) and next week (26th) April.

Full members will now have the Gate Code to access the rinks to practice. Mats, jacks and pushers are available near the main noticeboard.

I hope you have an enjoyable season and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Richard

April 2021

Four charities directly supporting the Chatteris community have been awarded a cash donation as part of Jack’s supermarket’s Jack’s Supports Scheme.

All four charities will receive £500 each to help fund their ongoing work within the community.

Jack’s Supermarket, on Fenland Way, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes.

Chatteris Bowls Club has received a grant from their local Jack's supermarket.

Usually, the four charities selected would each receive £250, and voting units would be placed in store where shoppers could nominate one charity to receive an extra donation. However, as voting in store has closed due to social distancing measures, each selected charity will instead receive an increased donation of £500 to help those whose usual fundraising efforts may have been impacted by the pandemic.

The four winning charities are:

Chatteris Town Bowls Club, an outdoor lawn bowls club open to all.

Andrew Hay, chair of Chatteris Town Bowls Club, said: “We would like to thank the Jack’s Supports Scheme for their donation, this will go towards the construction costs of an extension to the clubhouse to provide inside toilets which allow full disabled access, this is something we have been working towards over recent years.”

Fenland Pastures CIC, an animal sanctuary that also provides equine interaction sessions to vulnerable people.

Chatteris in Bloom has been given £500 by Jack's supermarket.

Chatteris in Bloom, a group of volunteers who work with the community and local businesses to help brighten up the town.

Little Acre Fen Pocket Park, a recently created open space that includes a number of features that will continually enhance the space for everyone to enjoy over time.

Peter Lonsdale, store manager, said: “The Jack’s Supports scheme has been running for a while now and it’s important to everyone at Jack’s to be able to give back to the local community who have always been so kind to us. As charity fundraising has been massively affected by the pandemic, we are delighted that we are able to offer more support to organisations than ever before.

“We strongly recommended anyone who’s considering applying for the next round to definitely get involved, we want to support as many local charities as possible, especially during such difficult times.”

To be considered for the next round of Jack’s Supports funding you can apply by visiting https://jackssupports.org.uk/.

The club has been running club roll-ups and competitions as all league games were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Andrew Hay (Chairman) said: “We have risk assessments in place and strict cleaning protocols together with social distancing rules; this has enabled us to have an enjoyable season whilst ensuring all members feel safe. Although our club membership ranges from 13 to 80 and over with the majority in the higher age range, we all feel life must go on and quality of life must be paramount.”

Finals weekend was held in glorious sunshine and produced some excellent matches. Thank you to everyone who made the weekend possible!
